PLEASE NOTE: To become a accredited National Umpire, the online Marking and Measuring Modules must also be completed first. While the theoretical component of this course is free to access, there will be a cost associated in gaining your accreditation.  Upon completion of the self-paced theoretical component, enrolees will need to contact their State or Territory Association (STA) office to express interest in completing an on-green component for this course.  The STA will invoice or require payment for the course at this time.  A payment will be required to be made and an on-green component completed before the accreditation is gained.

One method of becoming a certified Bowls National Umpire is to complete this self-paced training, along with an on-green component to be organised through your State/Territory Association. ‘National Umpire’ is a nationally recognised qualification issued by Bowls Australia and State/Territory Associations.

Description

The duties of an umpire are outlined in the Laws of the Sport of Bowls.

Umpires need to be skilled measurers as well as having a sound knowledge of the laws. Umpires may be called upon to decide disputes and to give an opinion on the interpretation of the laws. The umpire’s main role is as a neutral arbiter, ensuring that the laws are complied with and that games are conducted in a spirit of fairness and common sense.
